Mike Unson is a Filipino comedian, who began his career in 2003. Mike holds two degrees in Production design and Technical theatre from the College of St. Benilde, and has done guest lectures on stand-up comedy, at the De La Salle University and the Ateneo De Manila Professional Schools in Rockwell.
Mike started to perform his unique blend of observational comedy at the now defunct Comfort Room comedy bar on Jupiter Street in Makati. By mid 2004 he found himself opening for Fil-American comedian Rex Navarrete in the Philippines, at Sanctum in Intramuros, and has continued to do so, most recently for the latter's 2006 comedy concert tours in and around Manila.
Since then, his comedy has been showcased on local TV shows such as RJ-TV 29's Jojo A. All the way!, Jack TV's The Sib show, and Studio 23's the Men's Room as well as having been featured on Mango Vibe, a Vancouver based TV magazine show. He also collaborated with major bands like the Itchyworms, and solo performers like Jimmy Bondoc just to name but a few.
In November of 2005, Mike bested several professional comedians from all over the country in Comedy Wars
2005, stand-up comedy
competition produced by J-Aces Staff Inc.together with PLDT Vibe and Metro Comedy Bar. This earned him the title of Grand Champion and a purse of 100,000Php. He was the only contestant who performed without relying on a costume or a song number, thus proving that all you need is good wholesome material, a little luck, a lot of love, and most especially a MIKE-rophone to pull it off!
This gregarious character has proven time and again that alternative comedy can thrive in the Philippines.
The comedy of Mike Unson can be seen on selected nights at Conspiracy Garden Cafe: 59 Visayas ave. QC and in other venues in and around Metro-Manila.
